On 22 November 2004 Family Tree DNA launched FTDNATiP (Family Tree DNA Time Predictor ). FTDNATiP is the first program that allows two individuals who have tested their DNA and obtained the values for specific Y-chromosome markers, to compare them and estimate the probability that they shared a common ancestor within a certain number of years.

FTDNATiP incorporates specific mutation rates that have been proven to differ across the Y-chromosome markers, greatly increasing the power and precision of estimates of Time to the Most Recent Common Ancestor (TMRCA) between two individuals.
