Wright DNA Project
Results Page
Established in early 2003 the WRIGHT Surname Project continues to grow in number. The Wright Surname Project web site is maintained by Wright genealogists who volunteer their time to do so. One of the goals of this project is to develop a collection of Wright family groups who descend from various male Wright ancestors. DNA analysis of the Y chromosome, carried exclusively by males, provides a tool for identifying participants who share a common male ancestor. When used in unison with documented Wright pedigrees, these tests can also aid in establishing links between Wright groups who previously were thought to be unrelated.
Because many Wright surname researchers have exhausted traditional genealogy research methods without identifying their elusive Wright ancestor, this project combines genetics and genealogy in an effort to break through the proverbial "brick wall". This project has proven very successful in helping many researchers prove and disprove their genealogies. Could it help you?

Solving the Wright Mystery!
You may be one to solve a Wright mystery through the analysis of your DNA! After years of diligent effort by many to find documented paper trail evidence of connection between various Wright ancestors, many of us still do not know a lot about our Wright ancestor. Where he came from, who his parents were, and yes, even whom his children were. Through a simple DNA test you can very well identify links to other known Wright family lines. If you think you may be the one, email a Wright descendant to learn more about how you can help solve the mystery.
We are always
interested in in any feedback that anyone may have regarding the format. Please let us know if this
works or if you have an idea on how to improve it by contacting Linda Magellan
or Jeffrey Wright. And again, if you are able, please consider donating to the fund.
Current Statistics:
Date of Last Update: 24 Mar 2007
Number of Participants: 183
Number of Unique Families: 92
Number of Matched Groups: 31
Number of Kits Not Yet Returned: 10
Legend:
In the table, there are a number of features. First, click on any of the
underlined ancestor or group names to access their pedigree information. Clicking on the underlined kit number
will allow you to email the owner of that kit! If there is a "Y" in the column entitled "Web",
it means that this participant has a website and you can access it by clicking on the "Y". The DYS numbers in
red are considered fast mutating markers. Finally, Haplogroups that have been confimed by SNP testing are in
bold green text.
Matched Group Results:
This first page of
information details the results for all of the projects matched groups. All of these groups have been
identified by carefuly analysis of all available data including, number of markers tested, number of
mismatches, which markers were mismatched and existing genealogies. Except in rare occasions, once a
matched group is identified, they are assigned a permanent group number and are referred to in the
future by that number.

1784-85 Richard Wright of Rowan Co., NC Based on results thus far, it is recommended that participants upgrade to 25-markers in order to more accurately determine the modal haplotype of 1784-85 Richard Wright.
The following is known from the will of Richard Wright found in the office of Clerk Superior Court, Rowan County, Salisbury, North Carolina, in Will Book C, page 207:
Children of Richard Wright and Ann:

The will was probated Feb 8, 1785 by Evans Wright and James Morgan Junr. His widow, Ann, and William Wright qualified giving bond of 200 pounds with James Morgan as security.
Participants in this Family Group should consider upgrading to 25 or 37-markers to more accurately determine the Modal Haplotype for 1784-85 Richard Wright. Thus providing all possible descendants more accurate information to determine relatedness.
